The power of a child’s imagination is limitless. With it, he can create countless games and toys that are far cheaper and more versatile to complex ones bought in toy stores. A cardboard box, for instance, can become a castle or a hideout.
A child’s imagination is improved and developed by playing make-believe games. Boys, for example, usually pretend they are soldiers in the battlefield, shooting plastic toy guns and fighting “battles” with their friends. Girls envision themselves as nurses or doctors in a hospital, using their dolls as their “patients.” Either gender place blankets around a table and using underneath the furniture as a make-believe house.
Make-believe games provide kids a lot of fun for many hours. But aside from fun, these games also promote friendship, trust, and teamwork. Through these games, kids learn how to trust, share things, have fun, and learn from each other.
One of the best make-believe games is playing kitchen. Children pretend to be moms, dads, brothers, or sisters preparing and cooking a family’s favorite dishes. Kitchen toys include playable eating utensils such as “knives” to slice down fruit, cooking utensils such as “pots” to boil water, or kitchen appliance such as a “stove” to cook their meals.
Toy kitchen sets can be purchased in well-equipped toy stores, which can cost you over a hundred dollars. More elaborate ones, of course, cost a lot higher. These kitchen play sets include almost everything that a real kitchen has, except that it is in a toy version. Generally, these toys are safe because toy manufacturers give serious considerations to the safety of the toy.
Playing kitchen is fun, but it can also be advantageous for a household in more practical ways. Here’s why:
1. Playing kitchen teaches children the joys of cooking. Indeed, cooking is fun, and this toy introduces them to that fun. With the help of adults, kids can identify and learn how to use utensils, kitchen appliances, and other equipment without them having to handle the real thing. When the children are old enough, they will associate fun (by playing with kids
kitchen toys) to actually doing chores in the kitchen.
2. Playing kitchen with the family improves family relationships. There is nothing more unifying than playtime. Parents and older siblings should take the opportunity to play kitchen together with toddlers and younger children to establish a healthy family relationship. Furthermore, playtime is a rejuvenating period for everyone.
3. Playing kitchen gives parents the opportunity to teach their children the importance and value of responsibility. For example, parents can teach the kids how to clean the accessories in the play kitchen sets. By doing this, they will know the value of keeping kitchen utensils—and all household items for that matter—clean. By telling them to place their toys after playtime, they will know how to clean after themselves.
4. Playing with kitchen
play allows kids the proper way in handling food. For example, parents could teach their children how to properly cut fruits and vegetables using the toy knife. They could teach kids how to fry using the set’s frying pan.
