A kid’s world is full of fantasy. It’s like a pot of brewing imagination which can take your kid anywhere she wants and make her be whatever she dreams to become. With an imagination as active as that of a kid’s, it’s no wonder why imaginative plays are one of your kid’s most favorite games.
And because we all recognize the importance of imaginative plays in honing your kid’s creative imagination which is a significant aspect in her overall development, it is a parent’s duty to provide a kid with vast opportunities and experiences for pretend plays.
You see your kid in various roles, conjuring different play situations during play but to maximize her imagination even further, here are a few pretend play suggestions you can engage her to play:
- Act like your favourite animal. A lot of kids are fond of animals, mostly because they marvel at the animal’s actions and sounds. Make this part of her imaginative pretend play session by asking her to close her eyes and act like the first animal that comes into her mind. Encourage her by asking her not simply to imitate the animal but internalize it in such a way that in her mind she’ll transform into that animal. Take turns with her so she can also see how you do your own animal imitation.
- Play house with your little one. Childrens play kitchens are effective toys for imaginative pretend plays because they enable your kid to imitate what mommy is doing like cooking up food and preparing the dishes. And it’s safe because in a kids play kitchens, there are no sharp knives to hurt her fingers or hot pots to scald your precious one.
Letting her play in children play kitchens is good game that will teach your kid about the different responsibilities of a homemaker and prepare her for duties that come with adulthood.
Allowing her to explore a childrens play kitchens may even bring out the little chef in your kid as she concocts and puts together toy dishes. Who knows? What started as a little game in her kids play kitchen may turn out to be a lifelong career where she’ll succeed and earn respect.
- Play cops and robbers with your kid. This is a good game to teach her about the concept of good versus evil and how evil can never triumph over good. Be sure that you’re both on the good side as you engage in police chases with bad guys who can be played by some of her plush toys. Encourage her to think of plots to make the role play even more exciting and fun without having to resort to any violent or not kid friendly themes.
- Encourage your kid to come up with crazy story ideas and outrageous plot. Being stuck in a village where everything is upside down may be a good idea. Go out of the box, play outside the norms, let your kid’s imagination stretch to fullest by not confining your pretend plays to what is within the norm. As long as the theme is fun and kid friendly, no matter how out of this world, go for it.
Imaginative pretend plays are indeed a lot of fun, not only for your kid but for you as well. Effective for honing her creative imagination, pretend plays should always be one of the daily activities that you engage your kid to do. |
